New Sketches and Flickr Account!

Volume 2 is speeding along and the King of RPGs staff are working ’till our hands are too numb to roll. We’ve started a King of RPGs flickr account, gathering all the images posted on this blog so far, as well as lots of new sketches of pages from volume 1. Please check them out and become our flickr-friends! We need a healer!

See the Beauty! Touch the Magic!

In association with the awesome craftsfolk at Paw and Claw Designs, King of RPGs now has its first merchandise! Those who have read the original King of RPGs minicomics may recognize these beautiful d20 necklaces, an idea which, like gunpowder, was too big… AND DEADLY… to be kept in the mind of just one person. Our friends at Paw and Claw (kittenspawn on twitter) are selling these necklaces online in a zillion colors, and I’ll also be selling them at King of RPGs convention events (for starters, the San Francisco Zine Fest on 8/22-8/23 and the Alternative Press Expo on 10/18-10/19. (As well as many more events which are too far off to be announced, as King of RPGs volume 1 approaches its release date of January 19, 2010.)

Now YOU TOO can show your status as one of the world’s greatest gamemasters! Keep a 20-sided die close to your fast-beating, burning, dokidoki heart! On a related note, we’ll be uploading more sketches shortly.

King of RPGs Vol. 2 Script Complete!

It’s 8:13 am, the sun has risen a long time ago, and it’s done. Three months of on-and-off writing and thumbnailing, 300 pages, many 5 a.m. nights, and the script to “King of RPGs” volume 2 is finally finished. It’s weird to say that, knowing that volume 1 isn’t even out yet (although Victor’s art is complete and fabulous). But I’ve been wrestling with this volume for a long time, and now it’s done, and I’m happy.

It may be way too long, it may be too insane, but it’s finished. Actually, the script is almost certainly not too insane — if anything it can always be insaner. I’ve learned that it’s always better to go full-fledged into the insanity and dementia and crazy violence rather than be half-assed about it. Just as it’s better to dive into the nerdiness rather than deny it. Pancha and Shaenon have my greatest thanks for providing last-minute suggestions and edits. Victor, you have my thanks for being there to actually draw this thing. RAA HAA HA HA HA! MITHRIL WINCHESTER +50! SWORD OF SAND, SANDSTORM DEFLECTION!!! “You fool, did you think level 90 twinkle elves grow on trees?”

I’m writing these words from my new studio in Hayes Valley in San Francisco. My next order of business is to go to bed. Then go out. Then work on the next step. It’s good.
