New Contest: Crossing the Streams!

Hi everyone! This is Jason Thompson, author of King of RPGs. We’re participating in “Crossing the Streams,” a huge multi-author book giveaway! (No, this isn’t the news that I was teasing in that post a few days ago, but it’s pretty cool, isn’t it? ;) )

This is a group contest organized by Ari Marmell — author of many fantasy novels and Mouseferatu on the enworld d20 RPG bulletin boards — and involving many other authors and creators, mostly of a fantasy bent. Each individual author involved is running a contest on his/her own site. The specific details of the contest vary from author to author (i.e. one author might ask you to describe your favorite fantasy character, another author might ask for a picture of you naked and soaked in blood making an offering to Demogorgon, etc.), but each author is selecting TWO WINNERS from entries received on their site. Each of these two winners receives one signed book, free, from the author in question. You can enter on any and all of the sites, so feel free to check out every author’s site in search of the maximum number of signed books!

But… that’s not the big prize. Once the contests have ended, all the authors involved will get together and randomly select one single “super-winner” from all the entries on all our sites combined. This one lucky individual will receive SIGNED BOOKS FROM EVERY AUTHOR INVOLVED IN THE CONTEST! That’s 12+ fantasy books! (Of course, if you’ve been getting around, you might have already won some of those individual sub-contests.)

You can find a complete list of the authors involved, as well as links to their sites, below. But first:

HOW TO ENTER THE KING OF RPGS CONTEST
* Firstly, go to the King of RPGs facebook page.
* Then, post on the King of RPGs facebook page describing something weird, funny or amusing that happened to you while playing a RPG. Tabletop, live-action, online — whatever. You don’t have to go into great detail — a sentence or two is fine, or a few paragraphs if you prefer, as long as you get the point across. Whatever fits in the facebook post, basically! If you wanna get crazy detailed, post a photo of yourself holding up a longer description in front of your cameraphone, Occupy-style. Oh — also, please mention “Crossing the Streams” or “Xing the Streams” somewhere in the post so I know you’re not just some random person. You could mention it real quick, like “Dear Xing the Streams — I used to think these letters were all made up, but then I met this orc in the Caves of Chaos and….”
* AND LO, I SHALL SELECT TWO WINNERS: (1) THE ENTRY THAT ENTERTAINS ME THE MOST and (2) A RANDOM ENTRY FROM AMONG THE REMAINDERS! So even if you aren’t sure that your story is that exciting, feel free to enter, as you’ll still have some chance of winning!

That’s it! Note that these are just the rules for *my* contest; the rules for entry on other authors’ sites might be very different. Entries must be received between February 1st and February 29th, 2012. And of course, everyone who enters is also in the running for the random “super-winner” selection.

THE PRIZES:
People who win the King of RPGs side of the contest (or who become the mystical Super-Winner) will receive a signed copy of King of RPGs vol. 1 or vol. 2 (your choice). Plus, I’ll do a sketch on the title page, your choice of subject.

As Ari Marmell said (in fact, I’m quoting him directly), “Everyone involved in this contest is a great author or artist. If you like my stuff, you’re sure to like at least some of theirs.” So please check out the other authors involved in the contest. Go to their pages, poke around, explore their stuff. Perhaps you’ll find a really awesome author whose work you’ll really like.
